anyone know of any closed hatcheries near akron ohio? i found a lake in the woods and i am getting stories that it was a series of hatchery lakes that over flowed. it makes sense too because the lake has many bars and such separating the lake into various depths. it really created an excellent fish habitat. fish spawn in the extreme shallows and hide in waters maybe 12-15 ft. deep.(dont know how deep it is cause i dont have a boat) this is the lake you guys hear me talking about lunkers being pulled out of. 4lbers are common but the average are 2lbs. i have caught 6s out of the deeper side of the lake with swimbaits and floating stickbaits. deadsticking both. any info would be appreciated.

castmaster...not aware of anything in Akron area except over around Medina someplace. The history of DNR hatcheries is probably online here someplace if you want to search for it.

Wondering if you stumbled on an old "pay lake" facility. From what I understand, they had multiple ponds/depths like you describe. You might find info on it at old family owned restaurants/coffee shops that have been around 20-40 yrs. close to the place. Just a thought.

Sounds like nice quiet spot. Shhhhhh.

ah only way to catch the big ones is to use giant 7 in. stickbaits and swimbaits that are bigger that the natural forage. but only slightly bigger. like 5 in. and bight colors! i cant stress that enough. you try natural colors and you wont even catch the gills that will eat spit off the surface of the water. :D white spinnerbaits catch eight pound bass easy if you know where to look. location location location

I think everyone would like to know where it is, but he should hold the spot to himself. Would you give away a spot like that to everyone. If I knew of a pond that held bass like that I woulden't tell anyone. To tell you the truth I would Problably keep it to my self.

Hmmmm... Sounds like the old Rubber City Sand and Gravel site. Not a hatchery, but a quarry with varying depths. Anyone know what ever happened to those lakes? Was a state site back in the 70s/80s, then disappeared. Figured that it was bought out for some condos. One of the lakes was good for bass when guys weren't running the RC speedboats there.

i wasnt the one who caught the 8lber. that was my friend who was throwing a 1 oz. spinnerbait that he found at the hoga. spinnerbait probably got lost when fishing for pike. but this fish must've gone 8. me myself and i have only caught 6lbers out of there. and that was with a bluegill swimbait. you go there with any bait bigger than 7in. and you are certain to catch :B

There's a little spot in Green that I used to fish that sounds eerily like what you are talking about. The spot I'm thinking of is a series of old gravel pits that over the last couple years have been heavily posted PRIVATE PROPERTY. That was enough to keep me out even though the bass there are huge and hungry. If this is the spot then watch yourself because criminal trespassing isn't something I'd want on my record. I had days there that I could catch a bass every cast, and some I'm sure are monsters!

no the large pond i am thinking of is located by Springfield High School. how large are these gravel pits? there is a large 3 ft. flat that takes up half of the whole lake. offers a perfect spawning area.:B oh and there still is not rack salt. otherwise wouldn't the channel cats have died by now?
