I used to frog gig all summer. I've slowed down some in recent years. It's getting harder to find spots that hold good numbers of bulls. I have my best luck from a boat or canoe hitting the edges of lakes rather than marshes or ponds. Used to gig nimisilla almost every weekend. Once the metroparks took over and brought with it their new rules I kinda lost steam.

Get yourself a normal white headlamp. But don't go too bright. I tried buying the brightest headlamp I could find thinking it would help, but it definitely had the opposite effect. Truthfully, an actual gigging headlamp is still the best option in my opinion. Long lasting batteries, and you can still get a warm white color temperature.

Good luck to you! It really is a blast when you find some good spots. Not much better in the world than some fried frog legs.

I grew up in Niles, and my friend next door had an older Brother that used to go gigging with his friend who had a canoe. They worked Mosquito Creek as it flowed through Niles. One guy would paddle the canoe, the other would gig the frogs and they'd split the haul. They would pack their freezers with frog legs! There was no need for their families to buy chicken wings when the frogs were on!

There's some good slow areas loaded with lillys and stuff like that and some break offs that are like the mouths of old feeder creeks it's close to the headwaters so it's pretty marshy area. Auburn marsh is not boat accessible so not really on my radar
