wondering if anyone has ever seen this before ? was fishing the causeway at mosquito yesterday with my grandson , as the storm front got near our hair began to stand up,our lines would arch way up in the air , and my rod and antenna on my truck were ticking with electrity. strangest thing i ever witnessed. needless to say, we sat in the truck till it passed. must have been a huge amount of negative ions in the air. and no we didn't catch a thing

I've had it happen several time to me down in FL. Typically a STRONG indicator of an imminent lightening strike. Last it happened, I was walking on the beach with a couple of my daughters actually watching the storm line approach. That happened, we were high tailing it off the beach when a bolt dropped about 200yds from us about a minute later. In real general terms, the atmosphere is very favorable for lightening. You should seek cover when that happens, and without question get stay clear of those expensive lightning rods we all fish with! LOL

Experienced that on Erie near South Bass years ago. Was casting 1/2 oz Erie Drearies. The line would float abut 10 ft off the water keeping the lure from sinking. If you ripped the line down to the water the lure would sink. This was just after a thunderstorm with lots of lightning had just passed. Very erieee indeed.

Had that very same thing happen to me in a boat on mosquito, rod would give off this click click click just like a geiger counter, the clicks would speed up as the rod tip went verticle, string was looping way up into the air between the eyes, and I could see my own shadow of my hair standing straight up. Weird thing is there were two of us (my bro and I) and it was only me being effected, I hit the deck with my head tucked down between my knees as Rich planed boat it to the nearest shore, it was just then that a massive lightning strike happened right out on the lake where we were.
It's funny now remebering back that I couldn't figure out where that clicking sound was coming from, then once i realized it was my pole, sat there and played with it for awile trying to figure it all out, then my bro says "your about to be elctrified"! I literally threw the pole down hit the deck!
Oh yea and that storm!, most of the lake was sunshine with one big dark blue black cloud over top of us.

wow , and freaky it was! I was waiting for a spaceship to drop through the clouds . And those are some great stories . I'm glad I went with my gut feeling not really knowing , what the ..... But for the records , it really didn't start the light show till it got off the lake . Would have felt terrible if any thing happened to my grandson

I was fishing Nimi on the gas well road after the main storms passed, i watched an awesome lightning show miles away to the SE right at sunsut. The sky was a maroon color(over akron) at last light. Ive never had what you experienced happen to me... if i do i'll definatly take cover after reading these accounts.

Had it happen to me three times. First time was back in the early 90's down on Ky lake. Second was on shenango a few years later, and third was on mosquito in the mid 2000's. I knew exactly what was happening as i had read an article in one of my fishing facts magazines before i ever experienced it. Glad i knew what was going on as my two buddies in the boat, the first time, were really freaking out. Made it to the marina and sat down to order lunch and the sky opened up. The guys thought i was genious or something as i had told them it was going to storm and we had to get off the lake right now.:D

Been there and done that. Freaky for sure. Had it happen at Erie quite a bit when I would fish with the gramps during summer breaks back in the 80's and 90's. I would always lower the antennas from the radios and loran because they would hum really bad. Rod tips would do the same. Fishing line would just hang in the air after you casted. Weird stuff. Been awhile since I have seen that, but it happens during t-storms.
