I'm looking to get out for a while this weekend, and am debating between wading Ceasers Creek tailwater or trying a lake or big O. The tailwater has been at a pretty constant level (http://waterdata.usgs.gov/usa/nwis/uv?03242350), and is likely to be running clear (unlike most rivers in the area). Never fished it before and was just wondering if someone might know if it's worth the drive (from Milford).

I fish that area regularly and the water vis was about 14" last week. With all the rain we've had recently it's probably not that good.

Fishing always seems to be hit or miss there. Last weekend everyone I talked to got skunked.

I'll be out that way Sunday morning, its always a good trip for me even if I don't catch anything.

If your referring to the spillway it can be a pretty decent place to fish. It has lots of smaller holes that hold fish and one larger deeper area about half to maybe 3/4 of the way down to where it hits the LMR. That larger / deeper spot holds gar and drum mostly but I have caught LMB and sunfish near the shoreline there consistently. I have never caught anything huge out of there but typically I catch decent numbers. I've never been skunked there but I have had a few days where I only caught a couple fish but I guess that can happen anywhere.

I suggest parking down at the end of it over near the covered bridge versus parking over at the dam / spillway. less people fishing down these and many good spots. Where it meets the LMR can be a great spot but with the rain we have had recently I'm not sure how that would be.

I use Rooster tails in natural and white color, rebel crawls and curly-tail grubs in white, yellow and pumpkin. These lures have consistently caught fish there for me. Also purple w/ blue metal flake augertail worms fished Texas rig style has got me some LMB out of there. If your targeting sunfish, wax or meal worm under a pencil float work real well in some of the calmer pools near trees or other structure. This stretch of water has very different conditions from one spot to another, from shallow fast moving rip rap to calmer deeper pools so I take lures for both situations and change it up as the need arises.

It's a neat place, even if I don't catch many fish I still have a nice time there. Lots of nature to see there, turtles & beavers are fairly common but the beavers spook real easily. If you look and listen closely enough, you can find little lizards there, a type of swift I think.

I don't think you'd regret checking it out.
