I am looking to pick up a scope for my son's new Marlin 1895 sbl 45-70 lever action rifle. He was doing some research and thought that the Leupold vx3 1.5-5x20 seemed like a good fit for that gun. Any thoughts or experience with that particular scope?
Thanks

The Leupold will hold up fine on Marlin 45/70. In my experience that’s more than adequate power but I did the 20mm
on couple deer rifles and didn’t like the field of view and light gathering properties vs a scope with bigger end bell. I had whole repertoire of Ohio legal deer guns when Rifles first came in. I ended up with Leupold 2x7 on 1894 / 44mag
and Burris 3x9x40mm ?? on the 1895. I’m in SE Ohio thickets the bigger end bells extend the depth you can see into the thickets. Also better in low light conditions. Don’t have either one now, members bought them both. The 1895 rig payed off same day member bought it.
