Taking my daughter tomorrow to Alum. I really want to get into some saugeye for her. He does great on bass, gills and crappie. But I want her to get hooked on a good fighting toothy fish. Any suggestions.

Everything you need to know has already been posted. Last couple times out saugeyes have been hitting in 10 foot of water or less. See what way the wind is blowing and head for any shoreline that the wind is blowing into. Use a 1/8 jig or roadrunner with your favorite twister or joshy and work the jig or roadrunner so that its bumps bottom. If you want to improve your chances tip the jig with a piece of nightcrawler. If the wind is making a mudline make sure you fish the edge of it. You could also just follow polebender around and do the exact opposite of whatever he is doing.

used the info that others shared to put my youngster on saugeye tonight. big joshy swimbaits tipped with worm. tails containing orange caught more fish. we anchored in 3ft of water and casted with wind at our back to make it easy casting. retrieve by slow rolling or jigging. smallie was 18.5inches.

ran into fishslim who kindly replenished kurt's stock of sunrise joshies. thank you! one of the great people i have met on this site.

Very nice catches and glad to see your son got them. Always good to see kids at it too. Troy is good folks, always helpful too.

Only chance I've had to fish since 5/24 was on Sunday 6/5 (very windy); seemed like I was a Smallmouth Bass magnet, kept catching them everywhere plus surprisingly plenty of Rock Bass too. After a couple hours and dozen+ bass I had to called it a night. I did try some HJ's and different color Joshy's but not one Saugeye, hopefully will try again this weekend. All caught near the rip-rap banks using Solar Flare 3.25 Joshy.

Was great being able to have a shoreline view to watch your son Kurt cast and work the spinning rod like a true pro. Got a kick out of watching him jigging the bait along bottom then setting the hook with a quick snap of the wrist. Could not stop snickering after you netted one of his eyes he got he's taking jig out of its mouth HE CHOKED IT. LOL :) I know he has been a fan of Big Joshy swims since he got some years back. Keep up the good work you have a real fishing buddy for life there. You have taught him well....great job on the eyes. I ended up with 2 smallies around 16" where you saw me last and,4 eyes swims mostly but 2 on traps.

I live in Chillicothe and want to take my daughters fishing at Alum. We don't have a boat, is there any decent bank fishing saugeye spots? Would the lake be better than the spillway? I appreciate any help also, I'm trying to get them involved in the outdoors early.

Ya we have hit solid eyes and bass and cats on it at both buckeye in dingy, dirty water and alums 6/7' south pool water clarity.....
Question though,do u guys struggle in the really clear water? Usually its not quite this clean at alum in may and june. Dont get me wrong its been a great spring there. But almost all of are fish have been in either a mudline or a dirtier cove,or even travling north looking for dirtier water. Lol and at nite(dont know why im complaini:) ng)...
But say your limited to day time waters super clear,no wind /waves blocking sun or clouds. An no mudlines.
What do you look for?
Id say my first thing would be looking for shady sides of points/humps/islands. Or maybe even secondary points back in coves shaded by trees???

I HATE when the water gets this clear. It's better now because the pleasure boats are making mud lines all the time. I have had success drop shotting night crawlers this year on fluorocarbon other than that fish at night or bass fish lol. Now pretty soon they will get deeper and it won't matter so much.
