Hit Alum this morning with a friend.. managed 5 keeper eyes in less than 2 hrs.. The bite was on this am. We hit the water at about 7:00 am and was pulling out before 10:00 am because his 9.9 kicker motor was taking a dump on us. Took about an hour to find them but once we did it was on. Every pass a fish was on.. Lost a few but that is to be expected..

Here are the specifics....

We started out fishing deeper water south of the marina (20+ FOW) and decided to hit a few points on the way back to the dock. We decided to try a true blue spot that I rely on for saugeye and that's where we found them.. We trolled at about 3.5 to 4 mph according to the gps and graph recorder.. All fish were taken using either a shad rap or bright colored worm harness in about 9 FOW.. Lost a couple nice lures due to snags and a few fish because I was late on the hook set or too early but it was worth the trip..

Here's a pic where these fish were taken and hope it helps some other saugeye anglers out there..

Not too bad considering I haven't tried fishing for them since my old man passed away 3yrs ago I guess once you have it , you don't loose it...

Good job, Allen. Three quick thoughts on the reaction to the whole spot revealing thing:
1. He posted these same spots 3 weeks ago... apparently they're not fished out yet.
2. Saugeye move around alot in the summer... if some are there today, they may not be there tomorrow ... or they could be replaced by others
3. If there were 140 muskie that could survive in the spillway (with all the pressure it gets), these spots should hold up ok in terms of saugeye.

I'd understand if we were talking about small bodies of water getting hit, but c'mon people.

I been a member here for a long time, I am aware how many people look at this fourm. I was just trying to say dont be surprised if there people camping out at those spots next time out.

That's where we did good when my Dad was alive....sometimes....I still like the southern pool south of cheshire road east side, but will venture over that way and try once in a while....still haven't got the boat out this year yet:mad:just kinda lost the desire

Good luck catching them next time you go out! Bet there will be people camping out on those spots. Going to fish them tomorrow with my 3 brothers will report back.
Good luck to ya.. I'm trying to get Lac to go out with me but last time I had something come up and couldn't make it...

When you all go fishing for saugeye... FORGET EVERYTHING YOU KNOW ABOUT WALLEYE !!!!

Suageye are a lot more aggressive than a walleye.. When you present your bait to them do it fast this time of year.. Don't give them time to think about it. Make them take a reaction hit...

It has been proven by some of the best walleye / saugeye fishing people in Ohio... Don't let a saugeye sit and watch the bait when the water is warm and always look where you would not expect them.. Weed beds , shallow muddy run offs , anything that might hold bait fish....

I know what you're saying when my old man passed I pretty much gave up all of our catfish tourneys and walleye tournaments in Ohio... I just lost my fishing partner and best friend.. It took me awhile to get back into everything....

But this morning when we caught those eyes it was like he was there and told me to check those points before we called it a day..

First time saugeye fishing in almost 4 yrs on Alum Creek..

Seriously I don't care how many people are there fishing.. I hope they do good.. They may not be there tomorrow.. Chances are they will still be there. Nothing in the weather is suppose to change and no low pressure or high pressure making any changes....

If those spots are full of goofs just pull up in front of them and anchor on the first point and throw some jigs at them but make sure you move everything quickly. Don't give them time to think about it..

Or just move to another spot.....

I appreciate the detailed report Allent! And agree that you can tell them how great a spot is, but if they don't figure out the precise presentation, they will move on to the next spot and leave the eyes to the rest of us. But for the folks that are newer to saugeye fishing or may have never caught one, this information could guide them deeper into the addiction many of us enjoy:)
