been meaning to post these pics for a few weeks. has anyone ever seen anything like this or have an idea how it happened? this little guy hit my chug-bug and fought like nothing was wrong. very strange. will he heal with a nasty scar?

You see a lot of that from the river fish. I agree, either a bird of prey, or maybe a turtle. It will heal up and he will live a nice long fishy life!
Most snapper bites occur on the bottom side of the fish ; I'd guess an Osprey or it possibly got stabbed by a Blue Heron. It will probably heal just fine as I've seen some messed up fish caught over the years. Beautiful coloration on that fish, too !!
On the scioto north of oshay we see that alot. Usually blue heron. If its eagles or osprey they have talon punctures and by the time they get a beak in them there's no returning to the river.

looks like he has another wound up by his gills too...maybe that guy should stay away from the surface for a while.
Thanks for the responses guys. Whatever it was I feel bad for the little guy but didn't seem to bother him. Then again hurt or not you gotta eat.
