Go to the tire shops. I got a box of the old tire weights for zilch.

I tried to use the tire weights to make decoy weights. Because it was not pure lead, I had problems with it being to brittle. If it works for you, cool you can't beat the price. lol

  5. Best sources I have found are recycle centers. They typically have lead very cheap .20-.30 per pound. I stay away from lead pipe and wheel weights because they contain other additives and dont seem to pour well. I have usually been able to find lead sheets that are around an 1/8" thick. I have no idea what they are used for but I think they are/were used on roofs. They have a small 2' stack and are usually about a 2'x2' square. Sometimes they will have tar on them but it is easily pryed off or you can just burn it off and scoop out. Best stuff I have found and very easy to work with.

I have heard that you shouldn't use an old battery because of the acid.
We dont want anyone taking an acid trip on us.

I used those tire weights for a 6lbs anchor. I'll probably died sooner than longer using the torch to melt them into a rectangular form breathing all that smoke. That was 8 yrs ago.
