Mods I don't think this is political but if it is feel free to can it. So I had a scope go bad. It was a Nikon and as they don't make scopes anymore I figured it gone. On advice from others I called gave them the specifics.

They sent me a return pack with SELF addressed for the return. I had to pay postage which I expected. I copy down the tracking number and send it off. The mailing address is in NY state. It goes to Illinois first then to NY. Then it is sent back to Illinois. Then back to NY. They attempt delivery today and discover business is closed. Who woulda thunk it. Normally a package takes @ 3 days. This package is being given a tour of the midwest.

From what I hear Nikon won't be able to repair it but might offer me a product they still do make as a replacement. I have to pay for the return shipping of the replacement or the fixed scope. I just wonder if the return is still going to make the same convoluted path back to me.

That is all for now. I have to plan my drive to Florida . I figure on going as far west as I can before I head south.

Maybe but guess you guys missed where I stated it usually takes 3 days. This is been going for on a 10 day trek. If I can post the tracking history. It would read like something Larry , Curly and Moe came up with.

A buddy of mine used to pull doubles and triples for a well known shipping company (private). One night his second trailer was an empty 30 some footer. Hauled it from Salem to Wilmington. Turned around and brought the same size trailer back with him. Empty also. Said he couldn't explain the reasoning behind it but that's what he was told to do.

It WILL get better, here's why. During a high point in reduced revenues, they are changing out all their delivery trucks to EVs😆. I'm presuming just the local carrier delivery trucks. This is supposed to cost $1Bil, but remember. This is a govt job so what will really happen; 1/2 way through, OUT OF MONEY. Beg for more, raise rates:oops:.

Soooooo.... what you will see is the same tracking pattern, PLUS a 2 day layover labeled ''ISFC"" In Shop For Charge. That's 10-15 hrs for YOUR EV, but again, this is a govt job haha

Shipped stuff almost daily when I was selling on ebay up til 2022. Overall they do pretty good I think. Everybody has a tale like that @papaperch, but if ya take into account the volume, not too bad. And how they use the regional hubs is kinda screwy sometimes. I'm just north of Dayton, but if I send a box to Detroit, it will more than likely go to the hub in Cincinnati first. Plus, they've really been screwed up since March 2020 ;) If I was still selling today, my biggest concern would be hoping it didn't get stolen somewhere along the line.
Ebay sellers used to keep a running "game" of who's package traveled the most miles. I was in the lead for a bit with a small box headed to Tennessee that ended up in Germany  but it made it..about 3 weeks late

Your local post office used to have a mail slot for local and one for everywhere else. They eliminated the local, so now when you mail a letter that's going to a guy up the street it first goes to the big post office for sorting and then back to your local office for delivery.
Point being it can't be cost efficient if you are sending local mail all over the place when it could be kept in your local PO for local delivery.

Last year I sent a box of hatching eggs from western PA to a town in eastern PA by US Postal Service.
Paid for "next day" delivery... a week later they finally delivered the spoiled eggs to my customer!
Tracking showed it sitting in a hub for 5 days in the county that was neighboring the delivery point.

UPS can be just as bad...
Ordered a 10 gallon hot water tank from Amazon, it was delivered to me destroyed...looked like it was crushed by a fork lift.
Filed a damaged goods claim with Amazon, they set up the credit and return.
The next day UPS brought the return label and took the damaged package and gave me a tracking number.
Best part of this is so funny - UPS lost the returned package and Amazon had to file a lost claim with UPS!

What I don't comprehend is why UPS even delivered the crushed package and didn't take it upon themselves to send it back to Amazon to have it made right?
The delivery driver did a "dump and run" and I didn't even know he left it, so I didn't have a chance to refuse the delivery.

I understand your post Papaperch.. Just want to say for a Government entity, ahh well, if I follow through with my post it will be considered political. Damn.
Last week spent over an hour on “chat” with private enterprise Verizon trying to get an answer why our entire neighborhood is losing cell service many times daily for over two months now. Transferred to 4 different people and don’t think my complaint ever got resolved or registered. Did get though next day a notice that my bill had increased $30 mo for a new service I never asked for and agreed to. Then spent two more days “on chat” trying to get it removed - still unsuccessful. I have wasted more than two hours on something a 5 min conversation could resolve.

Next day called my for profit medical supple company for 3rd time in two weeks trying to get CPAP supplies. Over course of 3 calls was told not in the system, then told they hadn’t received my new prescription, then told oops had been shipped and delivered already. All were false. They told me two weeks ago they had my new prescription and would ship that day. Now that are a saying they can’t find the prescription, have to go back to doc, and now need to pick up my stuff because of increased shipping costs to them so I have to come pick it up 20 miles away

After that I again called my for profit hospital… been trying for 4 months now to get a $17,000 charge that my insurance has already paid them removed from my bill…

So that day when I ordered something on line and my post office delivered it to me the next afternoon I thought we’ll the gubment did pretty darn good

We all expect to get what we pay for. Not sometimes, not most times...every time.
Of course it never works that way, and like any other .gov service, USPS was never designed to make profit. If it did, they'd never get a budget increase and we'd all be asking for our cut.

So true! I live in Youngstown, but all of our mail goes through Cleveland now. So, the Mahoning Co. Treasurer and the Youngstown Water Dept. have established mailing addresses in Cleveland.

As for the USPS, I know they have their faults, but my experiences with them are usually positive. Many times I've ordered mushroom based supplements from an outfit in Washington state. They've been delivered in 4 days every single time.
