Discussion in 'Upland Game and Hunting Dogs' started by wildman, Feb 23, 2009.

  1. I am grouse hunting in Mc'arther and Nelsonville in 2 days. What part of the day is the best. I know they roost in the evening. 6 shot? Improved?

  3. i used to hunt that area alot a few years ago. Always hunt near water before dark. and 6 shot high brass will work fine. Good Luck! Capt. Scott

  4. Got out late hunted by Mc'arther around Tar hollow from 11:00 to 1:00 Them went to Nelsonville and hunted from 3:00 to 5:00 had my Springer Spanial found 1 4 pointer shed and jumped 2 grouse one jumped 15 to 20 yards in the thick stuff. second one was 15 feet and I have no excuse. 2 birds and give or take 4 hours of hunting. Had a good time.

  5. I like to start @ 10am. Seems the birds are walking around pretty good by then. I use a side by side 12 ga and use highbrass #7 1/2 shot with imp cyl/ modified chokes. works for me!
