Ive had a slow mid to late summer of fishing and i wont survive till next spring, I have caught some stealys before, but never in the fall. When and where do they start coming into the rivers. Whats a good bait or lure? I caught all mine in white mepps and spoons, but that was in early june..and all in one day!

It's going to take some cold weather to really start the run. There's guys already catching them out east in PA, but its going to be a little while (a month or so) before we see any numbers. My buddy at Gander Mt. said there's some guys catching them off the long wall at Fairport. For this technique, spoons are usually the best bet: k.o. wobblers, little cleos (silver and blue is my fav color). When they do start to move into the river in numbers, drift fishing under a float with egg sacks or jig/maggot is the best method. I know guys who fish spinners exclusively that do okay too. Good luck! You'll see some posts and fish porn in the Steelhead forum when it's time....

I was in new york yesterday, spoke with a few hardcore steelie fisherman up there. They've picked up a few towards the mouths, but like MJ said, it's still a little warm, and we need some heavy fall rains to get the flow going. Also it seems like they always end up getting the run a little earlier than us ohioans. but either way, look forward to an awsome steelie season, once these rains come thru.
