What is the best Loomis tube dragging rod for Erie?

Discussion in 'Tackle Talk' started by RonsBack, Sep 24, 2007.

  1. Hi all,

I'm looking to get a Loomis rod, specifically for dragging tubes on Erie and have been looking at these three:

    SJR902S 7'6" 8 - 17 1/4 - 5/8
    SMR882S-SP 7'4" 8 - 12 1/8 - 3/8
    SMR913S-SP 7'7" 10 - 17 1/4 - 3/4

Can Loomis owners offer me any insight or opinions on them?

    Thanks.

I have two Loomis rods and I would stick with the longer faster action rods. The sensitivity is higher and they all have a strong back bone. Which looks more like this one you selected SMR882S-SP 7'4" 8 - 12 1/8 - 3/8. I have never used this rod before and when you say dragging tubes I am assuming tube jigs and you are looking at sensitivity versus a trolling type rod.

Call Craig at Erie Outfitters, he is a Gloomis expert they are actually teaming up with him to make a steelhead rod. he is the guy to talk to about Loomis sticks, steel- smallies.

  4. I have a 6-6 G LOOMIS one piece spinning rod for sale if interested it is
a GLX in very good cond. 937-244-3866 Chuck or charliewalleye look for
    thread about rod.

  5. You looking for spinning or casting?

Spinning, I'd look at the BSR803 or BSR852 GLX. 803 has more power, but not as long as I'd like. 852 is in my opinion, the best spinning rod they make.

BCR853 GLX is probably your best bet. I like rods with very fast actions, and that's exactly what you get with Loomis BCRs. Otherwise, look at the MBR843 GLX.
