First order of business, our site is craftyfisherman.com. Now that's that is out of the way here is a quick background on us. We are an Ohio based startup out of Columbus that is geared toward providing an outlet for fishing enthusiasts to buy or sell their fishing gear. This could be flies, handmade baits, leaders, or used items such as rods that people want to get pass on to others. Essentially a consumer to consumer store much in the ways of Etsy, but just just for fishing only.

The store side is straight forward. You will mostly find cool, unique, high quality hand made fishing items that aren't going to be in the big box brick and mortar or various fishing sites.

We would also love to fill the void for basically all of the things specifically not wanted in the OGF marketplace. Re sell in bulk, people posting more than three times a month because they make lots of cool stuff, or if you just have a closet of old rods the wife wants you to get rid of, etc, etc.

We are organized with the Ohio Secretary of State, we accept all credit cards, PayPal, Google pay, Apple pay, Amazon pay, and Stripe. Essentially my point is that we are legit. We also have an apple and Android app to make browsing for gear or for listing items even easier.

We do this to support our own fishing habits. There is no registration fee, and no listing fees. Commissions are lower than eBay or Etsy. We have generated a tremendous amount of noise and site traffic in just the few weeks since we opened our virtual doors.

We look forward to being here at OGF, and growing with you! Reach out to us any time!

Sounds like a great idea. I hope it works out for you.
I just downloaded the app. I’ll be checking it out.
Do you have Instagram?
Hey JDL! Good to hear from you and thanks for downloading the app. We appreciate you!!

Regarding the Gram.. That's a bit of a very sore subject right now. Short answer is that we did. The AI for Insta decided to take down our account last Thursday in the middle of the night for goodness knows what reason. We're currently appealing that decision since we didn't do anything besides post pictures of fishing / fishing gear (it exactly mirrors our facebook page at www.facebook.com/reelcraftyfisherman if you want to see examples of our posts). The page was instagram.com/reelcraftyfisherman. If we can't get it back in the next thirty days we'll just move on and start a new one. It's amazing how much social media influences site traffic. We literally saw an immediate 10% drop in visitors after instagram blocked us. It's so frustrating!

Let us know if you have any feedback on the site or app. The first comment you may have is that "you need more stuff." That is ultimately the goal, however, we're reliant on people signing up to stock the shelves. We'll keep at it with regards to searching for new sellers. It'll get there eventually, I'm just hoping that people keep checking back and don't give up after looking at it just once.

Thanks again!

So what's your cut if someone sells product on the site
5% flat to us. The credit card cos take their credit card fee as well but that is standard. We really were more interested in the concept of participating with our friends than being the next Elon Musk.

We grew up selling flies on the Bay and etsy which was the genesis of the idea. They straight rip off the vendor.

.

Etsy is in the link above, but I'm short they have the same credit card plus a $0.20 listing fee plus 6.5%.

Ebay is worse, borderline unfair.

12.9% + $0.30 to list plus credit cards.

We were big on two hard pricing points from the onset. Lower than those two and no listing or final value fees. We actually care that our vendors make the money for what they sell. The lack of a listing fee alone is big because many fishing teams sell for only a couple of bucks.

I know it's just a start up but one thing I would suggest is getting some bass tackle on there. Yes the flies will make some money but if you want to be able to make money I feel it's going to be in bass tackle. Brand name and home made. Homemade jigs hand poured plastics etc... If you look on you tube there is a guy that pours soft plastics. The channel is called world's worst fishing show I believe. Someone like that you may want to get in contact with and try to strike up a deal to sell those products

Love the idea. We are beating the bushes all over looking for folks just like that, whom we can pull into the fold. The biggest challenge thus far is just getting people to expel the minimal effort to take the next step from posting their items for sale on social media to creating a legit shop online. We've tried to make it as easy as possible, but still bump up against folks just being happy where they are currently. The hope was by being cost free on the registration and listing side, it would be enticing from a "why not" perspective, however, some people really lack motivation it seems.

We had good success initially getting folks by messaging those who sell bass lures / jigs, etc on Etsy. Those folks are essentially our target vendor, and were very receptive to the idea. Unfortunately Etsy didn't like that practice too much and shut that avenue down rather quickly. So it was back to the drawing board.

We'll keep plugging away. Hopefully if the members on OGF know of folks who might be interested in the concept, they will pass the word along as well.

If nothing else, this has been a heckuva fun project to this point and one we look forward to keep pressing on with!
