I need some info, is the suggested weight capacity listed on boats overrated? In our Pro V Tracker 14 ft it says 3 people or 535 pounds. 2 Weeks ago @ Delaware we had 3 guys & around 900 lbs w/ out problems. In the Old boat we used to have it was a 12 foooter, I think it had a 400 lb rating, but again, we've had more than that. Please give me some info.

most are underrated a little, but for safety reasons.they'll carry more, but not legally.
if a boat is rated for 3 people with total cap.(for passengers)at say 500 pounds, that's all you can legally haul.
total weight capacity is different,as it pertains to passengers plus all gear, motor, etc.
probably doesn't happen too often, but the water cops have been known to check, and enforce the limits.
lakeraider can testify to that :D ;)
he was stopped at the ramp at cowan a couple years ago,and wasn't allowed on the water due to passengers exceeding the weight limit by probably 50 pounds or less.
