Does anyone troll with weight forward lures like Erie Dearies? Does it work/catch walleyed? Why or why not?

Had a uncle that trolled weight forward lures or Hot n tot's with a old spin cast rod/reel. He died back in 2003 but in the late 80's when the walleye numbers where high he caught his share mostly fishing shallow water.

Why would you want to do this ? If you going to do the trolling thing do it right.

Those weight forwards are meant to be casted and reel back. Or just drift them when the wind is blowing .

I had a 7 & 8 year old on the boat a while back off bouy. They both put on 1oz Eries and drifted them ! They both caught 4 a piece ! The 7 year old even had our big fish for the day a 27.5" Walleye ! Not bad for his first time walleye fishing ! We ended that day with their dads and buddies limit plus mine one theirs 19 Total!

That might be a good idea, have to try it sometimes.
I like people thinking outside the box.

I see no reason it would not work and wouldn't by no means consider it "wrong". It's really no different then trolling a bucktail. But you will need a little help with depth.

It does work. Put 3oz weight about 8' ahead of the lure. The Storm Pygmy's work also.

When we couldn't make it to the Lake Erie we would go to Paulding Resivior.Troll Erie Dearie"s,Big John's and Parrish Peas.We would catch Walleye,Sauqeye and catfish.Sometimes even close to limits..:T

Works great - use a good swivel though. They will twist the heck out of your line.
