just got a snazzy new Lowrance 3 in 1 transducer ... going to mount it next to skimmer on a 17' Sea Nymph ... a couple questions
  1. From the research I've been doing, it seems that the 3 in 1 should be mounted lower than the skimmer, which puts it closer to the center of the boat ... does that sound accurate?
  2. I have limited clean mounting space between rivets and stabilizers, is it better to have them as close as possible to the center of the boat? how far laterally from the prop to not screw up the clean flow?
Thanks for any input ...

Don't do Lowrance so won't comment on placement of your transducer but will say that you can mount a 3/4" piece of starboard on your transom where your transducer is going to go then mount your transducer to the starboard using 1/2" screws. That way if you ever have to move/change transducer mounts, add other transducers etc. ...you don't have to drill more holes in your boat. Just mount to the starboard.
Made mine 3/4'x6"x14".

I have the Starboard block installed ... I might need another one, placement is not ideal, would have liked it to be a little longer than it is or moved out a few inches but had to cover up a couple holes from a previous owner ... I have the skimmer previously mounted but it seems that there is a train of thought that the 3 in 1 should be lower because it reads out to the side and if the skimmer is lower it could interfere w/the echos ... skimmer is laterally about 9-10" from the center and the outboard shaft ... I can move that and install the 3 in 1 so it would end up 6-7" from shaft and skimmer moved out about 3-4" from current location ... I'm somewhat concerned of getting it to close to prop wash in the middle and to far to the right might not be in the water ... beam is about 62", motor is maybe 8-10" wide ... roughly 27 - 28" is half and the last 10-12 to the side is to close to water line ...

Just got one myself and pondering the same…. I currently have the structure scan ducer so it rides out of the water on a plane. When I use the structure scan the skeg blocks some of the port side view unless I raise the engine a bit, not sure if that will be an issue as the 3-in-1 is mounted deeper if I understand correctly…

Another question… do you need a skimmer transducer with the 3-in-1? If so, will the old skimmer I had hooked up to my Gen2 HDS work?
I wonder if any Lowrance owners out there would have a pic they would be willing to share of a good setup with the 3-in1?
Mine will be on an 18’ Lund Pro V, kicker on the port.

If running the 3 in 1 you don't need the skimmer. The 3 in 1 will do everything. Placement should be between the rivets, and flush with the bottom of the hull, plum and level. Like mentioned, while on side scan your probably going to have to tilt the motor up a bit. I have transducers on both sides of the motor and they work just fine. If you were running an Inboard engine where the prop was more forward it would be a bit more concern on mounting out of wash, but your prop is behind the transducer, so it won't pose a problem.
