Guys and Gals...this is the Forecast from www.noaa.gov It's a week out and this is lengthy, but I haven't seen them stay stuff like this for a long, long time! (If you like weather jibberish read below, important stuff in bold!) This is out of Cleveland!

    .LONG TERM /MONDAY THROUGH THURSDAY/...
BY THIS TIME NEXT WEEK...THE FORECAST AREA COULD VERY WELL BE BURIED
UNDER SEVERAL INCHES OF SNOW AS THE SNOW TRAIN HEADS INTO TOWN.
WILL BE LEANING TOWARD THE PERSISTENT GFS MODEL THROUGH THE EXTENDED
    PERIODS.

NORTHERN HEMISPHERIC VIEW SHOWS POLAR LOW EJECT A BIT OF ENERGY TO
THE NORTHEASTERN PORTION OF CANADA WHERE IT DEEPENS INTO A RATHER
STATIONARY LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM. THE LOW IS PROGGED TO MOVE LITTLE
DURING THE WEEK. THIS WILL SET UP A RATHER ACTIVE JET STREAM FROM
THE NORTHWEST INTO THE OHIO VALLEY.

A SERIES OF SHORTWAVES WILL RACE SOUTHEAST IN THE UPPER LEVEL JET
STREAM SPAWNING SOME VIGOROUS SURFACE BASED LOW PRESSURE SYSTEMS.
EACH STORM SYSTEM WILL DRIVE FAR ENOUGH SOUTH AND TAP INTO THE
MOISTURE AND WARMTH FROM THE GULF OF MEXICO FOR SOMEWHAT RAPID
    INTENSIFICATION.

SINCE POLAR JET REMAINS TO THE SOUTH OF THE FORECAST AREA...ARCTIC
AIR WILL PLUNGE INTO THE REGION FOLLOWING THE COLD FRONT MONDAY
NIGHT AND REMAIN ENTRENCHED OVER THE REGION THROUGH THE END OF THE
WEEK. AS THE STORM SYSTEMS MOVE SOUTHEAST...THEY SHOULD MOVE FAST
ENOUGH TO PREVENT ENOUGH WARM AIR FROM ENTRAINING INTO THE SYSTEMS
TO CHANGE THE PRECIPITATION OVER TO A MIX OF SNOW...SLEET...AND
FREEZING RAIN. THEREFORE...WILL KEEP ALL SNOW GOING THROUGH THE
    ENTIRE PERIOD.

FOR NOW...DUE TO UNCERTAINTIES IN THE EXACT TRACKS OF THE
LOWS...WILL NOT GO ANY HIGHER THAN JUST CHANCE POPS THROUGH THE
PERIOD AND SEE HOW THINGS PLAY OUT OVER THE NEXT FEW DAYS. THE
STORM SYSTEMS HAVE THE POTENTIAL FOR MAKING THE WEATHER RATHER NASTY
NEXT WEEK. THE COMBINATION OF THE SNOW AND GUSTY WINDS ALONG WITH
THE COLD TEMPERATURES...SOME PRETTY COLD WIND CHILLS CAN BE
    EXPECTED.
HEADLINES MAY BE NEEDED AT TIMES NEXT WEEK.

THE FIRST STORM MOVES THROUGH THE AREA MONDAY NIGHT FORCING A COLD
FRONT TO MOVE EAST ACROSS THE REGION. THIS IS WHEN TEMPERATURES
BEGIN THEIR DOWNWARD SPIRAL. A FAIRLY GOOD SWATH OF MOISTURE CAN BE
EXPECTED WITH THE STORM AND THE POTENTIAL FOR SYNOPTIC SNOWS CAN BE
    EXPECTED.

THEN...SECOND LOW DEVELOPS RAPIDLY OVER THE DAKOTAS AND MOVES INTO
SOUTHERN OHIO BY WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON AND DEEPENS AS IT ROUNDS THE
BASE OF THE TROUGH. ANOTHER FAIRLY GOOD SWATH OF MOISTURE WILL BE
ASSOCIATED WITH THIS STORM SYSTEM AS WELL AND HAS THE POTENTIAL FOR
    SIGNIFICANT SNOW ACCUMULATIONS.

THE STORM SYSTEM WILL BE FOLLOWED BY A STRONG ARCTIC HIGH PRESSURE
DRIVING BITTERLY COLD AIR INTO THE FORECAST AREA. THE LAKE EFFECT
SNOW MACHINE WILL LIKELY KICK IN WITH THIS FEATURE AS IT MOVES INTO
    THE REGION ON THURSDAY.

TEMPERATURES WILL BE TRENDING DOWNWARD MONDAY THROUGH THURSDAY AND
SO FAR GFS TEMPERATURES APPEAR TO BE ON TARGET. ALTHOUGH...GUIDANCE
DID BUMP TEMPERATURES UP A COUPLE DEGREES FOR TUESDAY AND WEDNESDAY
AS STORM SYSTEMS MAKE ATTEMPT TO TAP THE SLIGHTLY WARMER AIR TO THE
    SOUTH.

While getting alot of snow would hurt - but the wind could take care of it and blow it right off the lakes.

  3. ..NO dosn't look good for a lot of people...10 to 12 inches by tomorrow evening...All this insulation on top of the ice out there could realy slow the ice machine down...If it isn't one thing it is another...We live in Ohio...C.L...

The 8-9MPH winds their predicting aren't going to do squat to 12" of snow. What a bummer, just when things were looking up.We'll just have to wait and see if these guys are right with their forecast. They've been wrong before, like the whole month of December............On a different note, it looks like the majority of the snow will be 30-40 miles south of Cleveland.Do I hear a Presque Isle trip coming up if the weathermen are right?...................Mark

I tried to find something good or positive with all the snow we're expecting.I just called Dockside Marine at Presque Isle.I asked her if anyone was fishing the bay.She said I can't tell you, and I asked why.She said "can't see the bay, it's snowing too hard." I guess there have been guys fishing Horseshoe Pond, but Misery Bay has only 3" or less and the bay has very little ice.So much for the roadtrip next week.Looks like were all stuck in NE Ohio together.WE got the cold temps we asked for, now we're going to need very strong winds to clear the snow..........Mark

  6. YEAH THIS SUCKS. right before the super cold finally gets here theres supposed to be 7-10 inches of snow on top of 1-2 inches of ice on my favorite lake. Ive seen that enough to know if that happens the season is shot for at least another two weeks.
