Check a pet store in the aquarium section. My aquarium has a glass one but I'm sure you'll be able to find something that would work.

Go to Radio Shack and get a waterproof infrared Thermometer. Its only about 20 bucks and very accurate.

Swimming pool thermometers are very durable. Heavy duty rubber-like enclosures on them that can handle a lot of abuse (my pool thermometer is at least 20 years old). Most are built to float....you may not like that and they can be bulky. $5-6 maybe. Mine looks like ones at this pic (click link in photo) [ame="http://www.ebay.com/itm/Floating-Deluxe-Thermometer-w-String-Cord-for-Swimming-Pool-Spa-Hot-Tub-Pond-/300956264611?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item46126428a3"]Floating Deluxe Thermometer w String Cord for Swimming Pool Spa Hot Tub Pond | eBay[/ame]
