We took a couple deer last Saturday at plumbrook and saved the legs to make gun racks. Anyone have the recipe to preserve the legs??? I heard that they make a kit but am having trouble finding one. Thanks for the help. My next call will be to FOS in the Falls.

  2. There's a couple ways to do it. The only way that I trust involves completely skinning them out, to the points of the hooves. The skin/hooves then goes on a form, after tanning. The skinning isn't too difficult until you get to the hooves. After that, it's no fun. The one way that can work without skinning would be to have them freeze dried. Your taxidermist could have that done for you. There will be people that'll tell you to just get the marrow out and let them dry. Now, they will dry and look fine, but they're still just big hunks of raw meat and they WILL draw bugs over time. That should NOT be an option.
