A hunting bud just got a Winchester 1300XTR 20 ga. for his son. Close as we can tell this gun was manufactured in 1988-89. The serial# doesn't match any that is on Winchester site, but does show in history. We are trying to find out for sure if steel shot is ok to be fired thru it. Barrel is full and fixed. Thanks in advance for any input.

Absolutely no problem. I owned the same gun. A full choke however is another question. You might not want to shoot the bigger shot sizes through a full choke because steel is extremely hard. I don't believe it will blow the barrel out, but it will blow the shot pattern apart. Smaller size steel shot tends to cripple birds compared to the larger shot sizes. But it is a 20 ga, so keep the shots close and the shot size small and have fun.
