spey flies

Discussion in 'Fish on the Fly' started by johnati234, Dec 10, 2008.

  1. i recently bought some steelhead flies on ebay. along with them came a couple dozen spey flies also for steelhead. what is the difference between spey flies and regular flies? can the spey flies be cast with a normal fly rod or do i need a spey rod? thanks for the help.

You can use spey flies on your single hander rod no problem, no need for a spey rod! Although it's another fun subject. Basically spey flies are drifted but I done all kinds of way. What ever it put you into fish. Use them and have fun!!

  3. spey flies, i believe, are swung in and accross the current, not drifted, which is the main diff between regular v. spey flyfishing. anyway, just because its spey doesn't mean you can't use it as a streamer pattern.
