This probably should have been in the mid winter seminar but...
Does anyone know the difference in daily movements/ locations between the two?

Shad follow warmer waters and like to be near bays, shoals, islands. Western basin is prime habitat. They spawn in 2 to 4 feet of water. Also near city of Erie using the bay as part of their migrations. Shinners prefer more open waters and are usually in the top few feet of water. Very sensitive to surface temps and move into deeper waters as shallower waters warm but still stay in the top few feet to stay away from predation. They spawn in late spring to July before migrating to more open waters. Shinners lay their eggs in top of water column with a lot of buoyancy in the eggs where Shad lay eggs that attach to bottom on sand shoals. That’s all I got.

Also, towards the end of summer, the stratification of the water makes zooplankton less abundant in upper layer therefore the shinners have to head to the silty bottom generally early morning late evening to feed daily. Leaves them more vulnerable to predation. Hence perch fishing always is better late summer fall when the shinners are headed to bottom to feed.
