Saugeye Help

Discussion in 'Southwest Ohio Fishing Reports' started by warden, Jun 20, 2007.

  1. I have been fishing for saugeye at Ceasar's Creek for the past 10 years and have had good luck. However, for the past 2 years the catch has been poor and the size has been small. I troll and use crank baits. Any comments or suggestions?

I don't know if this will help but I was fishing off the docks at Wellmans Boat ramp last fall with a clown colored Rapala and caught a 18" saugeye while bank fishing between boats docking. I was fishing off the far left dock straight out. The lure was about 6 feet from the end of the dock when I was reeling it in. Last second I saw the Saugeye come after it and I left the lure in the water. All I had to do was raise the rod tip and I had him. I was fishing with a buddy and he took the fish home that night for dinner. I wish I had more line out for a little more fight but all in all it was a good fish. It was just before dark around 7:45 - 8:15 pm. If I can find the picture of it ill post it.
