Rough day on the LMR

Discussion in 'Southwest Ohio Fishing Reports' started by CatBassCrap, Aug 19, 2008.

  1. I floated the LMR today with my buddy. We were out for about 7 hours. Caught 7 fish with nothing to write home about but a real nice rock bass. Ended up flipping the canoe instantaneously towards the end of our trip. Couldn't fine my rod which had come out, but we grabbed the canoe and unloaded it and tried to get as much water out as we could so we could beach it. Ended up finding my rod and reel but apparently when we flipped the rod snapped in half. Bummer. Makes me respect the water even when it's down. We weren't clowning around or anything.

Did you hit a log or something? What happened?

  3. To be honest with you I don't know what it was. It wasn't jumping out of the water like us telling us to go one way or the other like most of the obstacles. I really didn't turn around to look. Haven't had any trouble with this float before either. I am very battered and bruised today too. Ankle got pinned under the canoe. Can't wait to get back to it either.

Maybe a GIANT SMALLIE knocked over your boat!! :)

  5. Hey guys, I was on the LMR 8/19/2008 also, I guess I was south of you on the LMR. I had a good float that day with a few pics. Hit some sauger and some smallies. I lost more than I landed, they were throwing the crank bait like there was no tomorrow. I was throwing a bomber A1, was also throwing a critterbait, but that was not as good as the crank bait. Here is a good one.

This one was caught when I caught a very small rock bass on the crank bait, as I was reeling it in, the smallie came out of nowhere and slammed the small rock bass, the rock bass fell off and the smallie was now hooked. It was the wildest thing I have seen, just as I am reaching out of the canoe and the rock bass is thrashing around, wham!! I will take that exchange any day.

Here are some more pics to enjoy.

I had fun today....caught a decent one on a topwater torpedo. That is always exciting, I love topwater.

  9. Good to hear that you had a good time. I am going to try to get out next week before the holiday weekend, which is going to be crazy and I do not plan to be on the water for Laborday Holiday, the idiots will be out in full force. I am just going to stay on land in my back yard with the grill and just enjoy some cold ones.

  11. nice smallie, they are the best fish , fighters and fight for everything, had 1 on at centerhill lake in tenn. that broke a spinnerbait shaft at the straight part over 120 ft of water, flopped on top of the water for a cpl minutes, i tried to make my way over there, i would have dove in after that 1. ahhhh the ones that get away,, haha,, guess its why we fish isnt it, good fishing all
