Rod Holder Question

Discussion in 'Canoes & Kayaks' started by CO_Trout, Jan 10, 2009.

  1. Hello all,
I rec’d a sit-in kayak for Christmas and wish to set it up to do some fishing with. Which rod holder would be better to install, an internal flush mount (ie http://tinyurl.com/5plzeb) or an external mounted rod holder (http://tinyurl.com/76z9au)

If you plan to fish on a creek, stream or river those flush mounts will do more harm than good. Nothing worse than approaching a riffle with trees and a rod sticking 6' up in the air. MAJOR PROBLEM! I definatley recommend getting a good deck mount holder that is adjustable so you can point the rods forward parallel to the water. I like the RAM series holders, but that's just me.

  3. Like CG said, forget the flush mounts and go with a Ram or Scotty holder. When I replace my Yak I will probably get 3 Scotty's. One in front and two behind the seat port and stargboard.
