I have my dad's (grandad's?) old Johnson open-face spin casting reel and was messing with it today. It seems like a fine and solid machine design, meant to last generations. It is called the Johnson Chairman 830. I can't seem to figure it out. There are little tiny buttons to close/release the bail after casting. And they do work. But there is mention of automatic bail release on text that is labeled on the side of the spool; and that feature does not seem to work. Anyone ever seen this animal?
