Pending a physical, LHP Arthur Rhodes is the newest member of the Reds bullpen, as mlbtraderumors.com has indicated that he has signed a 2 year, $4 million deal... Here's some stats: Rhodes missed all of 2007, but pitched very well in 2008. He posted a 2.81 ERA with a 2-1 record in 36 games with the Mariners, and a 0.68 ERA with a 2-0 record in 25 games with the Marlins. In total, though, he pitched only 35.1 innings in 61 games, so it looks like he should be used as a spot reliever. In those 35.1 innings, he walked 16 batters and struck out 40 (this is a pretty good ratio). His career numbers are not quite as impressive, however, as he has posted a 4.23 ERA and a 79-61 lifetime record dating to 1991. The trend seems to be that if his innings stay low, he pitches relatively well... Let's hope that our starting rotation can deep into ballgames, and this guy could help us a little bit. Let's not forget we have Bill Bray, however. He can be UNHITTABLE at times, and if he can learn to control his stuff, he could be very good in the future.
