Went out for a little late night catting last night...

My 15 yr old son caught a 3.5lb channel and was really thrilled.

I noticed his eyes were brilliant red?!?! Anybody know why or what causes that? Strange looking for sure - a demon possessed kitty cat. :D

    Just curious!

  2. was that cat white by any chance? if it was with red eyes it was a albino.

I'm not sure about catfish...but, a half a fifth of Jim Beam does it to me everytime!

  4. Most likely bloodshot from an injury. They turn a very brilliant red. I have to think that if the fish was white, that would be the most striking feature, not the eyes.

I figured since it was late night he just shined a light at the eyes and the retina was reflecting red light back at him. Just like a walleye, deer, coon cat eye at night when you shine a light at them. Just different color depending on the species.
Like the red eye of a human when the camera flashes off the retina.

  6. That's another good possibility.
