last i was up there, which was three weeks ago atleast, we were getting bass and one walleye throwing lipless cranks. we fished a few points and ended up fishing the deeper weeds in 6-8 ft of water. we also looked for schools of shad that were getting busted. let me know how you do, i might be heading up there this weekend.

  3. I'll be there mon-thurs next week campsite 56 if anyone wants to stop by... :D
I'll have a chum pile out for the local carp population ;)

chum? you don't need no stinkin' chum! I mena that seriously, that lake is littered with carp!

  5. Chumming keeps the fish confined to a fishable area... You can fish 50 yards down the bank from me and see what I mean ;)

I'll be camping at the Ohio state park there this weekend. I don't recall the site number but its a lakefront site just south of the beach. I have a canoe and would appreciate some tips for catching bass and walleye in the general area around the campgrounds. I don't get many opportunties to fish so I'd like to make the best of this one. The kids are happy to catch anything....is that chum pile anywhere near where I'll be camping?

  7. Sure will be cause my site is exactly where you will be... But I will not arrive till Mon afternoon... I'll be at site 56 with a blueish ford escort wagon...
Bass fishing I do not know about for there but walleye here is what I would do...
Fish very early starting before 1st light and then I'd hit the flats fan casting smaller diving plugs or simply drift fish doing the same while I drag a worm harness behind me ticking the bottom...
You'll be fishing blind if you do not have a fish finder so it'll be lots of luck to get into them but if you do fish the drop offs early off flats near deeper water for walleye. Remember there are alot of baitfish in the water now so fish slow and easy to get your bites...

for the bass you might just want to fish the weeds if you can find any and for the eyes, I know they come in shallow at night on points. trolling rapalas or casting works well.

As for chumming, I just thought that it'd be a little over kill. The number of carp in that lake is amazing. I realize that by chumming the fish would be much more confined, but i had never done it before and always caght fish there.

  9. Maybe 4-5 weeks ago I stayed up there with my kids and we caught 70+ carp in one day... That is a good month for most...
    Good advice on the bass...

Thanks for the tips. One other question, what do you use for bait to catch the carp I have always just used nightcrawlers. Is there a more effective bait I should try?

  11. Plain old canned sweet corn... use a carolina rig, heavy sinker, set drag super loose and tighten drag after the hit/hoo-set and DO NOT leave the rods unattended or they'll swim with the carp!!!
