Prop Damage

Discussion in 'Boats and Motors' started by normd, Jun 4, 2007.

  1. Friend of mine took his brand new Alumacratf 17.5 out this weekend and the prop on his 115 Optimax had a .25/quater size chunk taken out of it. What should he do? Who does prop repair in the Toledo area? Or should it just be replaced. The boat is only like two weeks old and has been out 5 times.

  2. I wouldn't run it that way too much, as an damaged/unbalanced prop will cause undue wear on the prop shaft bearings. I assume the prop is made of aluminum. Any good prop repair shop can repair the damage. Probably cost you $50 or so.

There's a prop shop out on Summit Street. May take a while this time of year.

Buy a new prop, refurb the other as a spare, stay out of the rock piles! ;)
