greetings ... I'm looking for a place to play a little poker ... we have The Jack in Cleveo but it's kind of a pain to get to and deal with it, most games are above my bankroll and they take a solid rake ... there are some "private" card rooms in Columbus and I believe one in Ontario and possibly some others that seem to hold semi regular games ... going to be there for some business in a few weeks, has anyone had any experiences at any of these poker rooms? any opinions, what kind of games are spread, the stakes, clientele, security, are they clean places, etc? or if anyone knows of any other LEGITIMATE rooms or clubs or games that aren't the Jack they'd care to share ...

Thanks

americascardroom.com is where I play. Only security you will find is at a casino or online. Every thing else has a degree of shadiness imo. If you are looking for lower stakes than are typically at casinos the only option you have is online or private home games.

I thought ACR was history ... do you play for real money there or is it one of those jackpot sites? I've played on a few of those smaller sites but many of them are pretty shady for a number of reasons, the good ones like Poker Stars aren't available in Ohio yet and the rest of them are unreliable and generally a PIA to get $$$ in and out, you have to jump thru a lot of hoops using crypto currency, because it's not legal in our great state and cashouts can take forever ... laugh you can put your money in in 3 seconds but 3 weeks to get it back :alien: I understand about the security in private game laugh at the stakes I can afford those game shouldn't be in jeopardy of being raided or robbed :geek: I can live w/the casino games at lower stakes, I prefer limit games up to 5/10 or so ... I've played the no limit games but playing w/maniacs can be frustrating, there's a lot of wild swings in many of them, everybody thinks they're at the WSOP ... the rake is brutal at the Jack, I think it's something like 12% of the first $50 or so, that's a tough hill to just break even, and right now because of Covid stuff you can't railbird while you're waiting, they want you sitting at the bar or a slot waiting for a call that could take a while to get  I think the card rooms are a daily fee and no rake ...

The carnivals at the various churches always had poker. I don't know if they still do. Hard to even find a carnival this year. Also, there was a few games in Akron years ago. I went to one, honest folk, maybe 10-15 tables. I didn't know a soul after working in Akron 20-30 years but they all knew each other. They used to even advertise in the Beacon, as carnival night, I think, or Vegas night or some such. It moved around too.

until a few years ago there were always "charity" games all over town, there was even a "poker hotline" that you could call and find where the games were that week ... there were usually several everywhere and Nautica always had games going ... for various known and unknown reasons all that shut down pretty much when the Jack opened ... there are still occasionally church carnivals but advertising is limited and the games aren't much, nothing like they used to be ... went to a local one last year had 1 table w/3 grandmotherly types, 1 old guy and 4 other guys who knew each other ...

ACR has been great. Its as close to pokerstars as I have seen. I am a MTT NL guy myself and they have loads of big tourneys, 50k and 100k's daily. My favorite is the sunday warm up, $109 250k guarantee. Its not as big as pokerstars but it gets close. Lots of options. If you are a limit holdem guy, I would avoid online. For one there are not a lot of those games that fill AND online bots have pretty much cracked that game. I like limit alot too but the bots scare me. In no limit bots dont scare me much, in limit there are limited betting options and computers are better at that. All that said, I think ACR does a pretty good job policing it. I have gotten several "confirm youre human" checks while playing. I play for real money and can deposit with by debit card. If your CC dont work, go to coinbase.com they are the largest crypto exchange and easy to deposit and send money in bitcoin. You do have to wait up to 4 days before you can send money you deposit into coinbase FYI. Ive had no withdraw problems at all but I always withdraw in bitcoin, but from there easy to get into your checking account from coinbase.

I also used to play on the website mentioned by Bassthumb. You'll always find a bunch of people wanting to play some poker there. However, sometimes it's pretty tough to withdraw your money. I mean, they ask for a ton of verification questions and passwords. That ain't bad, but sometimes it's incredibly annoying. That's why I prefer another site, which I consider the best online casino. The interface is straightforward, and you can withdraw your money as soon as you enter your password and the verification code from your email or mobile phone.
