I was out at Buckeye Lake this past Friday morning fishing for Channel Catfish and noticed numerous Carp crusing along the Shoreline. I also helped a guy land a Carp which I would estimate weighed in the 5lb-7lb range and I observed a Carp jumping out of the water which I believe it was in the 10lb+ range.....Would this kind of activity be consistent with their Spawning period or is this just typical Carp behaviour ? By the way, I had no luck with catching any Cats either.

  2. I'd say the ones cruising the shoreline were definitely spawning...particularly if they were following each other around. Occasionally you'll see them near the shoreline other parts of the year when they're feeding there...but right now should be prime spawning time. As far as the jumping behavior goes...they do that all the time, but it is more common this time of year.
