Hello everyone,

Sorry I have been MIA since joining but I have been busy trying to get settled into the Columbus area and trying to find a job, and decided I am going to take a break this week and try catfishing Hoover lake. I have been donating plasma to get my fishing gear up to date and I have a few questions.

I bought this book from Cabelas called Southern Ohio Fishing Maps filled with a lot of information and I was wondering if that book is still relevant? I am going to try and fish area 10 tomorrow with chicken liver, nightcrawlers and stinkbait. Does anyone have any tips? I want to try out the lake and get a feel for it before I take my kids there this weekend. (They are 6 and 7 and my 7 year old is wanting to go somewhere we can keep the fish he catches he turns 8 in July).

How accessible is this area? Is it generally crowded or fairly wide open?

How is the catfishing in this lake?

I noticed there was some changes in the 2023-2024 regulations where we can now use 3 rods and there is no longer specific regulations for hoover and they now fall under statewide regulations, is this correct or was there a misprint?

Does hoover have a time regulations like close from 30 min before sunrise to 10pm or anything like that?

I just want to ensure I am following all the laws and regulations correctly,

Thank you,
Josh

Yes regulations have been changed to the statewide. As long as you are actively fishing you can fish any hours. As Tom stated cut bait(shad, BlueGill, ect.) is best your choice or live gills. Channels, blues and flathead are all in Hoover. If you want to lots of action to keep the kids intrested i would suggest Buckeye Lake it's loaded with Channels.

as far as the book goes Check the date of the printing I bought some a while back and print date was 2016
and taking the kids I would bring all different kinds of bait Can't go wrong with night crawlers something sure to bite to keep the kids happy and three rods state wide Good luck tight lines PS let us know how you and the kids did
When I went the other day I didn't have much luck, caught a small 7" crappie but something hit it hard while I was reeling it in and had destroyed it. Went today with the kids and caught some keeper blue gill and one 10" crappie all on nightcrawlers at the marina but lost two bobbers due to snags and headed home due to my daughter being "bored" even though she caught the crappie lol. I got some cut bait for the next time I can go out on my own. The two places I ended up going the other morning was red bank and another boat ramp slightly north of that one.
