New Cumberland (06-05-2004)

Discussion in 'Ohio River Fishing Reports' started by OH0307DP, Jun 12, 2004.

  1. First time fishing below the New Cumberland dam, last Sat. night from about 8 pm - 1 am.

Caught one 24" flathead and a good size sheephead, and had some more bites using shiners and nightcrawlers on the bottom.

Overall it was pretty slow. Didn't get ANYTHING from a lot of effort with different swimbaits and jig combos.

I was mostly fishing the area around the end of the locks, the current area at the main channel, still water behind the locks, and the edge fo the current.

What are the best water conditions for this area? I see that floodstage is listed as 36 ft, and it's 14-16 this weekend.

i only fish the tailwaters in early march for walleyes and saugers, its at its best when level are at 17-20 ft.
