Much to learn...

  1. So this summer I have been trying to teach myself to fly fish. After a few successful sessions catching miniature pan fish in still water with poppers and chuggers, I decided to try working in some current today. Went out to the little miami around noon, failed miserably at trying to cast a nymph with a float above it. Switched to a BH olive wooly bugger without a float and things got much easier. I ended up with one hookup, which was pure luck. I fought the fish for about 5 seconds, saw a beautiful bronze flash when it almost surfaced, then it broke me off at the tippet to leader knot. I guess it doesnt do any good setting the drag on my reel light if I am going to white-knuckle grip my line when a good size smallie gets hooked. Oh well, at least I didnt hook myself this time.
