I usually tip with a crappie nibble but lately I haven’t needed too. This is my nephew. Chip off the old block.

The 8 3/4" black crappie are thick and bend your pole bringing them in, now the white are thin... Sunday 11' was our depth 62 temp. south side by the blindI forgot the picture. View attachment 511461
Joe, I sad this about the 9” size limit two years ago. Crappies take 3 1/2 years to get to legal length to keep but most spawn at two years therefore putting more little ones in the lake. Thats a tremendous amount of small fish being introduced into the lake per year. This lake can’t handle this. Not every lake benefits from the size limit. Mosquito definitely isn’t one of them. Those 8 1/2“ fat blacks are going to put millions of little ones into the lake again. Probably the third time they spawned before they’re legal. Try to imagine the ratio of small to big crappies in this lake. Sure there’s some big ones there. The smaller ones outnumber them greatly. And remember, the big fish spawn too and add to the number of little ones per year. I hope this makes sense as it’s all hypothetical. I’m no biologist. You gotta wonder if that large of a population of crappie is the decimation of the juvenile walleye population…schools that big on a feed must do some sorta damage if there’s a shortage of forage fish
I agree with you 100%. I think that it would help the lake if they took the size limit off for a few years.Joe, I sad this about the 9” size limit two years ago. When I left today around 3 surface Temp was 70. Lake was super flat today.Anyone have a current north end water surface temperature??
It's a 3+ hour ride for us, so trying to plan for this week's outing.
Temps early last week were 64-65 deg.
Any help is greatly appreciated!!

How was the water clarity? Weeds? My brother and I were back on the water Wednesday. We got a early start so that we could beat the heat. We were using the same setup, Bobby Garlands and nibbles, that we always use. We fished anywhere from 8-16 fow and caught crappie in every depth but 14ft. seemed to be the best. 7 of the 9 keepers that we ended up with came from 14ft. We're planning on fishing next week but I think that we're going to launch at the State Park and fish the deeper water to see if maybe there are some bigger crappie hanging out in the deeper water. We were on the water at 6 and off by 10:30. water temperature was 70 degrees. View attachment 511895
