My brother and I made another trip to Mosquito yesterday. It was a beautiful day to be on the lake, nice breeze and not overly hot. A lot of crappie came into the boat but not very many stayed there. We only managed to get 6 keepers and 2 keeper bluegill. Bobby Garlands and nibbles are what we were using. My brother decided to try a little casting for walleye while we were drifting. He was using a Erie Dearie and half a crawler. He didn't catch any walleye but he did catch 4 catfish, we took a picture of the 2 biggest ones, and a largemouth. We fished in 13-15fow. Water temperature was 78.

Nice cats and slabs. Last time I was there, I caught over sixty crappies and only six were keeper size but nothing over eleven. I may be done there this season. Staying home in Pa. Much nicer fish here.
I know there's a lot of nice crappie in Shenango. Hopefully I can talk my brother into getting his Pa. license next year and we can make a few trips over there.

What’s going on with this lake. Overfishing?
Fish kill.
The lake is loaded with crappie, but a lot of them are undersize. I figure there must have been a pretty good hatch a few years ago and that's what we're catching now. There's still some nice crappie in there but you have to get thru the little ones to get to them. Crappie fishing should be really good there next year or the year after.
