I'm looking at getting a new casting net. I have a friend that loaned me a nylon casting net and it worked great. I have always owned mono ones. What do all of you use and why?

  2. it depends on the fish you are trying to capture and what condition you want them in. a mono net is tougher than a nylon net and i think a little easier to throw well, if i am collecting shad for bait a 5ft(D) mono net with 3/8in mesh is perfect and legal. not only is mono tougher but it is tougher on you bait, shad are big enough to take it but smaller fish such as minnows and stonerollers are best taken with a nylon mesh net with 1/4in mesh, however once you snag that net it is toast. hope that answers your question
