I recently purchased a boat with a 1999 7.4L MPI mercruiser and have concerns with the temperature sensing. The temperature sender that goes to the gauge on the dash is installed in the thermostat housing. This will not read the block temperature due to the fact that fresh water is going into the thermostat housing and keeping it cool. I tested the t-stat and it opens at 160, which is correct, but I am concerned that I will not be able to see when the motor overheats. I don't understand why the temperature sender is not on the motor side of the thermostat. Any insight on this? Thanks in advance for your thoughts.
