I have never fished the Maumee for smallies and would appriciate any information about when, where and how. I get up that way the 2nd Monday of each month on business and have a few hours to spend on fishing.

Thanks,

You will have a hard time getting into any smallies this time of year. The river will be loaded with white bass, some walleye and catfish now. I dont start fishing for smallies till mid June thru the summer when the water is low and clear. Tube jigs, small spinners and shallow running crank baits are the ticket then.

Just like normd said, a little more towards summer. Anywhere from sidecut-buttonwood, all the way up to grand rapids. Van tassel, weir rapids and miltonville access are right off the road on the S side of the river. All those produce smallies.

inline spinners, cranks like CC Big O work, rapalas, and top water popr's are some of my favs.

I have had great success in the summer. There are lots of resident walleye year round in the river.
