Sunday I decided to get the boat ready. (14' starcraft w/ a 9.9) I decided to change the lower unit oil, 1st time since I just bought the boat used last year. Seemed like an easy enough job However when I removed the top screw it didn't want to come out. When it did I figured out why, the screw was cross threaded. Now it won't tighten. :( Do I need to take it to a marina, or can I just tap out the hole and use a larger screw?

    Any advise welcome.
  2. You can, or install a heli-coil. Keep in mind, you'll need to pull the lower unit to keep the metal shavings out. While your there, might as well change the impeller.
