till the chrome is here. Last year i was catching them the first week of sept. Dee said im sick in the head for wishing cold weather, but i say bring it on. I went and bought 5 doz of minnows befor the price really goes up(shines already raised his minnow price. Threw some salt on them and in the freeze they went.....
Does any one have any cool memories from last year they want to share... heres a cool one...... Me and Gobyoneganoby always went steelheading on a wed. They were calling for alot of snow that day out east but it looked good in the morning. so we said lets go... so we travled to our hot spot and a little snow was falling and it was "COLD". finger tip burning cold!!! by the time we walked to our hole the snow was coming down bad to a point we could barley see our floats 10 feet in front of us, and we were the only ones that we knew of fishing on the river that day!!! We each had about 6" of snow on are backs and the wind was blowing like hell... But the cool thing was it was like shooting monkeys out of a tree. That front turned the chrome on like viagra to a 80 year old. Between the both of us we landed about 25-30 fish in that crap!!!!
I had alot of people say they dont know if we liked death or we were just die hard fisherman that day!!!!!!

  2. That was a brutal day. We had no business being out anywhere, let alone fishing in the Snow Belt. How we did as well as we did in 25 mph winds out of the north is still beyond me. I'd do it again today if I could!!!

  3. sounds like u diehards had a good day. i only dream of fishing for stealhead up north'in ohio. me, i like crawl'in around on muddy creek banks down hear on the ohio river. cold, cloudy, rain, snow and every raw un conerfitable elemnt u can throught to gether and lets GO FISHING.when would be a good time to try me luck, i went and bought a browning six rivers stealhead rod just waiting on a oppertunity to go. an't asking for ur hot spot but like some info. do a lot of trout fishing during the cold times

  4. i can't wait either. your right steelhead bob. i don't know why but the chromers do get turned on by blizzards. my best and by far most memorable have been bone chilling blizzards. going to the rock 1 morning cars are all over the road, accidents everywhereand im going fishing. the day before easter,we couldn't see anything, our hands were shaking, but we were pulling in steel.steel in the snow=priceless.

  5. Man, quit talking about that steelhead blizzard stuff. You're making this bass fishing seem pretty lame :) I have a few memories from last year. The first one is the day I was supposed to go out with Pymybob and Cheezemm2. They canceled last minute, so I went out by myself to another spot. I wasn't expecting much with their being an east wind plus I hadn't fished this spot in a couple years. On my first cast my float goes down, and I land a nice 9 lb chromer. It was on the ENTIRE day. Not a single the entire day. I landed well over 30 steelhead, experimenting around with different colors, styles, baits...everything worked.

My next memory is the day before Easter like Buckeye6 said. I didn't have high expectations for that day either because number one, I hadn't done well the past couple of weeks and number two, I figured the day before Easter the rivers would be packed. A blizzard went through but the fishing was amazing. I landed around 20 fish. The best part about it is that I saw one other guy on the river all day.

  6. man' i got to get up there, my best is 2 to 3 lbs. rainbows

well Boonecreek, if u ever get up this way for the weekend, shout me a pm, ill be glad to put u on some fish!

  8. Thats a good idea. I have been wanting to do this for a while now, but Iwas never completely sure what to do. When you freeze them do you just put them in a ziplock bag with no water and put a lot of salt in the bag? How much salt?

And I cant wait for Steelhead!

  9. To me the best days where I was in the Buffalo and fishing from there to the Catt while the snow was falling 1/4" per 2-3 hours! The only ppl out where the locals. I have goten chased off the break walls b4 in the winter chasing steel with a fly rod with the waves, and thats no treat either....lol...

i put about 2 doz on paper towel and try to dry off all the water, but keep them alive until you do. put them in a ziplock, add just enough salt to cover the minnows and suck all the air out and seal it and put them in the freezer. alot of people dont like using salted minnows but for me, they out fish fresh ones... and now is the time were you can get the 3" size minnows, unlike alot of times in the middle of winter u always get the 1" minnnows.

  11. Just wait until October. The big shiners will be in the marina area of the rocky, thick - net 'em by the pound at that time.
