  1. 2005 Triton Boats Lake Erie Walleye Trail kicks off this weekend at Port Clinton

The Western Basin Sportfishing Association (WBSA) will be holding the first event of the Triton Boats Lake Erie Walleye Trail (LEWT) in Port Clinton this Saturday April 16th. The official registration and check in site will be at Coastal Marine II located on the river just west of the draw bridge.

While sometimes hard to predict, the weather for the weekend looks great and there have been a lot of reports of good fishing on the lake so far this year. We are looking for a lot of big fish to be brought to the scales.

Registration will be available on Friday night from 5-7 PM at Coastal Marine II. Saturday will start early with registration, sign in and boat inspection beginning at 5:30 AM. All registrations Friday evening or Saturday morning must be paid in cash. Boat US and West Marine have stepped forward and will be there serving coffee and donuts to all the participants and they will also have a gift bag for each team filled with merchandise and coupons.

The boats all must be back by 3 PM for the weigh in to determine finishing places. The weigh in will find pop donated by Boat US and West Marine and pizza donated by Erie Outfitters for all of the contestants.

Spectators are encouraged to attend the weigh in as it is a great opportunity to learn where the anglers caught their fish and what techniques they used and to ask the anglers any questions they might have.

Jims Taxidermy, located in Port Clinton, will be providing a FREE mount for the largest fish weighed for the big fish pot.

The WBSA is a Social based Club for fishermen and women that fish in the Western Basin of Lake Erie and its tributaries. Membership is open to all fisher people no matter what their location. Our goal is to present information in a manner that will help sustain and improve fishing in one of the greatest inland sport fisheries in the world. Scientific information, fishing techniques, locations and presentations will be presented at our monthly meetings by expert and knowledgeable speakers and tournament anglers in our group. These anglers are very open with techniques and methods and will help any member that is trying to learn new methods. All you have to do is ask (Well, maybe not the day before a tournament)! We will be hosting tournaments our selves and assisting other groups with their tourneys and fundraisers and also holding or assisting with Children's fish outings and equipment.

Openings still exist in both divisions for this weekends event.
