Planning a trip to Lake St Clair mid-late June (first time on the lake)...most likely launching out of Selfridge ANG base in the New Baltimore area. Want to target Smallmouth but don't want to venture too far. Any suggestions/input is appreciated.

Do you want to fish Michigan or Canadian Water?

If you want smallmouth and you are fishing Michigan water I would start out fishing in front of the 9 mile club. You will start out in about 8-10 foot of water. Drift tube baits, smoke and purple work the best on St. Clair. I use what is called Canadian Mist color and do very well. The fish in Mid June will be on there beds, in the North side of the lake it comes up pretty shallow and you will be able to see bedded fish if that is what you are after. Otherwise middle channel is great for Smallmouth.

If you fish Canadian water,(which is the best water on St. Clair), right at the mouth of the Detroit River in front of the beach is a great spot for smallies, then on the other end of the lake the "Firecracker" bouy is a good spot.

Hope this helps. There are a lot of great fish on St. Clair.
