Is there any good reason to use blood knots instead of surgeons knots?
Personally I find blood knots are less "bulky" and don't pick-up the debris that surgeons knots do. As far as casting or knot strength I have never seen a difference.
Blood knots are stronger to connect fluoro to mono, hands down. But, there are stronger knots, i.e. orvis tippet knot(improved figure 8) and the ligature knot. The ligature knot is the strongest all around, but the orvis knot is not far behind, and much simpler to tie.
