Planning on heading to the island on Monday I thought about bringing the yak with me. I have never been there, nor have I fished there. What is the fishing like close to the island which I can reach with the yak Smallies would be the target here. Any info would be helpful Thanks,
Seth

South side off the old Neuman pier in the morning is good for smallies close to shore as is the SW corner. Otherwise, fishing this year has been as poor as I've seen it in 20 years.

We fished last Sat, covered the East and North side of kellys, some of Middle Bass, and most of North Bass. I put 32 miles on my 18' jon boat that day. We fished for smallies HARD.

The result? 3 smallies. One WAS a tank at 6lbs, but for all the hype of Erie smallies I was pretty let down...

Now the sheephead fishing....that was on fire!

We stay at the state park each June and use the yaks to fish off of the beach there, out in 15 fow, we do best on black twister tails, or a single minnow behind a jig head. You will also hook plenty of rig towing sheephead, so be ready for that.
