No one knows for sure..lots of ideas, but no facts. Maybe signaling spawn activity, trying to remove paracites like leaches...or just jumping because they can????

I see carp jumping all during the warm water times, but have seen a few breech during colder water times too.....all i know is a jumping carp has other things on its mind besides feeding, but a rolling carp on the surface will feed, most think a rolling carp is signaling food, i mostly agree as i often get carp rolling over top of my chum and hooked baits....then shortly after the rod will take off.
