Jig hook size

  1. I am stocking up for my trip to the river and was wondering what size hook iwll fall in the 1/2" max gap range? I am looking at some floater and they come in several sizes. Can someone give me some advice, I am going to buy them from cabelas. What is the largest you can throw? 4-0?
  2. Go with a #2 floater. That is what 80-90 % of the fishermen use. Some go with a #4, or a size bigger, but #2 is the most popular BY FAR. Also, a 3" tail is most common as well. Good luck!

  3. We make floating jigs and we took a Mustad 2/0 jig hook into the DNR and they said that was the biggest gap you can have. It just barely falls between the 1/2" gap requirement. We have sold a bunch of them to people going to the river.
  4. I just poured 300 jigs,2/0 hooks and they measured 1/2.. also 20 lbs of egg sinkers.should be good for a few years on the Maumee, 1/8 to 3/4 oz
