Ideas for anchoring down shanty?

Discussion in 'Hard Water Discussions' started by johnny fish, Oct 10, 2005.

  1. Can anyone give me some ideas for anchoring down my shanty i use an ameristep doghouse hunting blind as my shanty it sets up and takes down in under 2 minutes has room enough for 2 to fish comfortably and blocks the wind fairly well. my only problem is anchoring it down their are tie outs at each corner last year i was just tying 10# weights to each corner it worked o.k. but am looking for other ideas. any help would be greatly appreciated.
  2. Take a fat guy fishing with you. ha-ha They make a screw in ice anchor that would probably work. Check Thorne Bros., sorry I don't have the link but a google search should bring it up for you.

  3. I use one much like the one hardwater fan posted last year
    cheap and does the job
Drill anchor hole first tie hut down before setup
piece of 1/2 conduit 12 -14 inches long 4 ft rope thru the tube tied off on both ends 5 ft rope tied to the center.
use the thru rope to lower into the hole tie center rope to the hut tube will cross the hole an stay put. Get ready to pack up untie let tube fall use thru rope to pull out end for end

  4. Thanks guys I like both ideas Guess I will just have to try both and see which I like better. Johnny

theres a few different ways to do it, guys come up with all sorts of things. maybe youll come up with something even better.

like was mentioned, the "drop" anchors, and screw type anchors are the most popular, some ice fishing manufacturers sell gadgets to hold your shanty in place. all the drop style anchors ive seen are home made. maybe you could get some ideas.
